Iram Siraj-Blatchford is Professor of Early Childhood Education at the Institute of Education, University of London. Her recent research projects have included: An Evaluation of the Foundation Phase across Wales, and she is a principal investigator of the major DCSF 15-year study on Effective Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education (EPPSE 3-16) Project (1997-2013), and of the influential Researching Effective Pedagogy in the Early Years project (REPEY). Iram is interested in early childhood education, pedagogy, curriculum, assessment and the impact of learning in school and home. She is an expert in mixed method and qualitative research analysis and case study work and is currently working on longitudinal studies as a principal investigator in a number of countries including the UK, Australia and Ireland. She has always been particularly interested in undertaking research which aims to combat disadvantage and to give children and families from these backgrounds a head start. She is a specialist, early years advisor to governments and ministers in the UK where she is conducting reviews of research on child outcomes for the Centre for Excellence and Outcomes (C4EO, 2008-2010) and advises governments overseas.

Iram is the President of the British Association for Early Childhood Education. She has published over 40 major research reports and books and over 120 peer reviewed articles and chapters in scholarly books. Iram has been an honorary visiting professor in many countries and is currently Visiting Professor at the Universities of Melbourne, Hong Kong IEd. and Swansea. Her recent publications include:
